Year-End Epilogue

Happy Holidays, everyone!

It’s already mid-December and we’re nearing the end of the year. Doesn’t that sound a bit unreal? It’s been the craziest, most unexpected 10 months, and we’ve all had our fair share of twists and turns. I had to stay indoors for the majority of my time, giving me a lot of freedom to enjoy my hobbies, relax, and think. This led to an abundance of new learnings over this period of distancing, which I'm now grateful for. A bit about holding on, a bit about letting go, and a bit about appreciating what happens here and now. I reflect on my life more often than intended nowadays, which is sometimes a good thing and other times not (if you know what I mean! eek!), but either way, doing so helped me realize what I want to carry with me into the coming year. And as a way to conclude the year, I’d like to share them with you today!

This is a list of 3 lessons/realizations that I’ll be taking with me as I enter 2021. They gave me the ability to grow into a better version of myself during a year that I thought wouldn’t give me a thing. Hopefully, they’ll be able to help you out a bit, too!

1. Take care of yourself just as much as you take care of others.

It’s common for us to offer comfort to our friends and family who are struggling, but

make sure you give yourself the same amount of attention and love. Dedicate time to

self-care and healing by doing things that make you happy and bring you comfort.

You really deserve it.

2. When big, unprecedented problems happen, find small solutions.

When things happen that you can’t control or fix (immediately and/or individually), try to

find other things you can help. The COVID-19 pandemic was something nobody saw

coming, but during this time, I’ve had the opportunity to take control of smaller things

in my life, partially as a way to cope and partially as a source of good in all this bad.

After doing my part by staying at home and following all of the safety measures,

I stopped dwelling on all of the things that I can’t change and started exerting my

energy into things else that I can. An example of this is how I got rid of my old

procrastination habits and became a more organized, schedule-bound person. I’ve

had an easier time managing school and personal life because of this!

3. Take your time.

Don’t rush your healing, relaxation, recharging, anything that has to do with your mental

health and general well-being. We’ve taken two handfuls of hits this year. It’s okay if you

get back on your feet immediately, or if it takes you a few days, weeks, or months to do

so. Don’t compare your progress to others and don’t pressure yourself to catch up with

them. When it comes to your well-being, you need to go at your own pace. Please take

all the time you need.

There’s plenty more to learn, and I’m ready to keep on going and growing this coming 2021. And I hope you’re all flourishing in your own ways, no matter how big or small your progress is. I’m proud of you!

I hope you’ll all have a happy December with your loved ones and that your New Year’s celebrations will be very memorable. Take care of yourselves!
